Moyes now personally driving Everton move for "talented" £40m midfielder

Everton manager David Moyes has now sounded out a move for “one of the most talented players in England”, according to a report.

Moyes eyeing new midfielder before transfer deadline

The Toffees are still looking to bring in reinforcements in a couple of positions before the transfer window slams shut on February 3rd, with a central midfielder of particular interest, and they have now made contact over a deal to sign Juventus’ Arthur Melo.

Melo is also being targeted by Real Betis, but negotiations have stalled, meaning Moyes’ side have an opportunity to move ahead of the La Liga side in the race for his signature. Chelsea’s Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is also an option for the Merseyside club, having failed to force his way into Enzo Maresca’s plans at Stamford Bridge since arriving from Leicester City in the summer.

Dewsbury-Hall is not the only Chelsea midfielder that Everton have their eye on, however, with talkSPORT reporting they are now interested in signing Carney Chukwuemeka this month.

David Moyes wants to bring in another forward this month.

The Toffees are looking to bring Chukwuemeka in on loan, although the Londoners would need to be willing to terminate Armando Broja’s loan to make the move a possibility, as they currently don’t have enough free spots.

Moyes has made it clear that signings are necessary to boost his side’s chances of avoiding relegation from the Premier League, and he has now sounded out a move for the Chelsea ace, who is valued at £40m.

Borussia Dortmund and West Ham United are also named as potential suitors for the midfielder, with the German club looking to sign him on loan, however the Blues would prefer to get him off the books permanently if possible.

Chukwuemeka has great potential

Although the 21-year-old has been unable to force his way into Maresca’s plans this season, given the strength in depth at Stamford Bridge, he has a great deal of potential, and a loan move could aid his development significantly.

The central midfielder is still very young, but he is at an age where he needs to play more regular first-team football, having featured for just 130 minutes for the Blues across five appearances in all competitions this season.

Former Chelsea man Joe Cole lauded the youngster as “one of the most talented players in England” shortly after he completed a move from Aston Villa, but since then he has been very unfortunate with injuries, which has stunted his development.

A fresh start could be what Chukwuemeka needs to get his career back on track, so it is promising that Everton are in the race for his signature, particularly if they are able to sign him on a loan deal, which would make him a low-risk signing.

Newspaper nostalgia

A fan takes us on his journey of watching cricket matches before the era of cable TV – through print

Anand Mamidipudi30-Nov-2016I still remember the smell of the newspaper when he hit that six that shattered a generation of hope. At the age of ten, I was standing in the lobby of our hotel in Sikkim, holding that hitherto unclaimed newspaper with trembling hands, as I visualised a hapless Chetan Sharma running to the wicket like a gullible lamb toward a lion’s den. Sharma then bowled what can best be described as a “lolly”, which was launched into orbit by Javed Miandad, doing his best impersonation of Obelix’s “PFAFF!!”. The legend goes that the ball was never recovered because it melted into thin air upon crossing the boundary. It did not matter that I had heard about this unfortunate event on the train to Sikkim the previous night. I was travelling on a school excursion and came across a crestfallen passenger who told me that the world had just ended in Sharjah. However, I did not truly believe him until I read about it in the newspaper the next morning. This was true of most matches that I “watched” in my childhood. To me, they only materialised when they appeared in the newspaper the next day.Take, for instance, Ravi Shastri’s heroic 107 on a bouncy pitch in Barbados; it was an innings that should have won him an award for bravery. It came against a fearsome West Indies attack that read: Marshall, Ambrose, Bishop and Walsh. Even as the rest of the Indian batting line-up crumbled around him in a heap to 63 for 6, the statuesque Shastri struck 12 boundaries in a dogged riposte. I followed the match through a newspaper, with a one-day delay and a heavy dose of imagination. He must have hit the peerless Malcolm Marshall for at least a couple of fours. Surely one of them was a “chapati” shot. You see, Shastri was my hero because he played these match-defining innings that became commonplace when a curly-haired 16-year-old emerged to dominate the sport. Until Sachin Tendulkar arrived, I drew succour from the many displays of batting obduracy from Shastri, who seemed to use a bat to win a staring contest on the pitch. His was the first name I checked on the scorecard in the newspaper, even if his more gifted, but infuriatingly fragile colleagues scored more runs. I knew from my newspaper snippets that Shastri had often patted down many thunderbolts as an opener before he gave way to the frail wizardry of Mohammad Azharuddin. One year, I willed myself to learn the Telugu alphabet because the Telugu daily showed up at our doorstep a couple of hours before the English newspapers. It gave me great joy to read “A..ja.. ha.. roo..din” next to the score of 109, a withering display of artistry in an otherwise soporific series played on dead pitches in Pakistan. India somehow claimed a 0-0 moral victory in that series. No matter the result, there was unbridled joy in reading about my Hyderabadi idol’s conquest of Mt Imran. Imran Khan was caned to the tune of 100 runs, which was fitting balm for the failure of a certain RJ Shastri, who scored a total of 16 runs in two innings. I would be remiss in not mentioning young Tendulkar’s brilliant 59, in only his second Test, a harbinger of many superhuman feats.

To me, matches only materialised when they appeared in the newspaper the next day

Newspapers have given way to a digital form of media, most of which are quite effective in representing this great sport, but nothing that I tell my seven-year-old son will convince him that reading cricket news in the early morning newspaper was a multi-sensory experience. It involved touch, smell, sight and, most importantly, boundless imagination. Even as every word unravelled in front of my eyes, my mind drew batting arcs and banana swings to fashion memorable suspense-filled storylines. There is a distinct memory in my mind of a match that I went to see in Lal Bahadur Stadium in Hyderabad in 1987. I was 11. This was the second ODI between Pakistan and India. At this time, India were finding every possible way to lose to Pakistan, and I held very little hope that the result would be any different that day. India scored a respectable 212 in 44 overs, powered by Shastri’s 69 not out. One of his two sixes landed a few feet from my seat in the pavilion, which is one of my career highlights as a cricket fan.Pakistan inevitably began chasing down the target, powered by Saleem Malik’s 84, much to the chagrin of the full crowd in Hyderabad. Run by run the target was being shaved down with precision. Still, India managed to keep the game close till the very end. In fact, so close that the run equation came down to Pakistan needing two off the last ball. Abdul Qadir faced the redoubtable Kapil Dev and the entire stadium waited with bated breath. What happened next was a blur.Kapil Dev ran in and bowled, Qadir tried an agricultural swing. The ball squirted off his edge and then there was bedlam. It appeared that Qadir had run himself out trying to get the winning run and the scores were miraculously tied! Nobody in the crowd was quite sure what had happened. After a few minutes, there was an announcement on the speaker saying that India had won the match because they had lost fewer wickets. While the crowd roared its approval, I sensed that something was off. The result was surreal. The ending was farcical theatre.I realised that there was only one way to fix the confusion in my mind. The next morning, I jumped out of bed at 6am and ran excitedly towards our verandah. Lying on the floor was a fresh, untouched copy of the . I got goosebumps as I began to slowly peel apart the pages to reveal the match that I was going to “watch” again.Want to be featured on Inbox? Chelsea now eyeing late January bid to sign "quick" gem compared to Isak

da bwin: Still looking to get their January business underway, Chelsea are now reportedly plotting a late swoop to sign a young rising star to boost Enzo Maresca’s attacking options.

Chelsea transfer news

da brdice: Whilst they’re yet to get any deal over the line, the Blues have once again been at the centre of several transfer headlines this month, including in the race to sign Alejandro Garnacho. Reports have even gone as far as to suggest that a swap deal involving the Man Utd winger and Christopher Nkunku could yet take place with the Red Devils.

It’s an added attacking boost that Maresca would certainly welcome with open arms after his side struggled against a top-six team once again this weekend, this time suffering defeat against Manchester City despite taking a shock lead inside three minutes.

In the end, the Blues suffered a frustrating day at The Etihad and one that they’ll want to forget as soon as possible before potentially dipping into the transfer market for the first time this month.

According to reports from France, relayed by Caught Offside, Chelsea are now eyeing a late move to sign Enzo Molebe from Olympique Lyon as the January transfer window edges closer and closer to slamming shut. The report adds the Blues could then send him out on loan to Strasbourg.

Not just Sanchez: Maresca must now drop 4/10 Chelsea star who got 'bullied'

Chelsea were poor defensively against Man City

ByJoe Nuttall Jan 25, 2025

The 17-year-old forward is certainly one for the future and a player who could perhaps replace the inconsistent Nicolas Jackson at some stage in the near future. His young age hasn’t stood in the way of senior opportunities in France, with Lyon even trusting the forward to feature in the Europa League as they defeated Qarabag 4-1 back in November.

Now, as Chelsea plot their move, Molebe could have quite the decision to make regarding his future.

"Quick" Molebe has decision to make

If Chelsea do come calling this month, then Molebe must consider all factors before putting pen to paper. The 17-year-old, no matter what, must put first-team opportunities at the top of his wishlist, meaning that an immediate move to Stamford Bridge may not be the best option for his career at this stage. Instead, waiting for that opportunity to arrive when he is ready may well be his best route to the top of European football.

He’s already a player who’s caught the eye, with analyst Ben Mattinson describing him as a player with “quick feet” and going as far as saying that he has the “Henry/Isak/Aubameyang profile”.

Chelsea are certainly wise to be keeping an eye on such a talent but whether they decide to make their move as early as this month remains to be seen, with Molebe a star on the rise.

Nottingham Forest join race to sign £34m+ ace who could replace Awoniyi

In a move that could go a long way towards sealing their top four place, Nottingham Forest have now reportedly joined the race to sign a new forward worth over £34m this month.

Nottingham Forest transfer news

Those at the City Ground are in a better place than ever in the Premier League to sign some top talents. With the potential of Champions League football to offer, the likes of Baris Alper Yilmaz are suddenly realistic targets as Forest look to cement their place among the Premier League’s best in the remainder of the season, as their recent 1-1 draw against Liverpool proved they’re capable of doing.

As the January transfer window and their shock inclusion in the Premier League title race roll on, Nottingham Forest may well be one of the most interesting sides to watch across European football, especially if they win the race to sign one particular forward this month.

According to Firenze Viola as relayed by Sports Witness, Nottingham Forest have now joined the race to sign Luiz Henrique from Brazilian side Botafogo, who value their forward at €40m (£34m) plus add-ons this month.

Club now open to selling Nottingham Forest target with 23 goals last season

2024 was a very fruitful year for the striker.

ByBarney Lane Jan 17, 2025

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are reportedly joined by Crystal Palace and Fiorentina in the race to sign the Brazilian this month and see him as a player who could provide key depth behind their frontline.

Henrique would likely play the same role as Awoniyi from the bench and could even replace the former Bundesliga star who has been linked with a move to West Ham United this month.

If the forward does depart then Forest’s depth could become exposed, making the arrival of Henrique all the more important before the end of the January transfer window.

"Direct" Henrique could replace Awoniyi

With the ability to play on both wings and in the leading role, Henrique could quickly become a key man at Nottingham Forest and replace Awoniyi should the forward depart this month. And whilst £34m+ is quite the fee for what would be a back-up player, Forest will certainly need the depth if they are to cause a few upsets in the Champions League next season.

Luiz Henrique for Botafogo.

Still just 24 years old, there’s also no reason why Henrique can’t eventually go on and replace Chris Wood, Callum Hudson-Odoi or Anthony Elanga under Espirito Santo. Scoring 13 goals and assisting another nine in all competitions for Botafogo in his last season in Brazil, Henrique was praised for his “direct” play by South American football expert Nathan Joyes.

Whether those at the City Ground will get the chance to see that “direct” ability for themselves remains to be seen, but Henrique is certainly one to watch.

'It's ridiculous' – Shastri frustrated with Indian quicks' recurring injuries

Ravi Shastri feels the frequent and recurring injuries to senior Indian bowlers is “unreal”, “ridiculous” and “frustrating”.Shastri’s comments came while discussing the latest injury to Deepak Chahar, who bowled just one over before pulling out of Chennai Super Kings’ IPL match against Mumbai Indians after picking up a left hamstring injury.”Let’s put it this way: there are quite a few in the last three or four years who are permanent residents of the NCA,” Shastri said on ESPNcricinfo’s T20 Time:Out show ahead of Super Kings’s home match against Rajasthan Royals on Wednesday. “Soon, they’ll get a resident permit there to walk in any time they want, which is not a good thing at all. It’s unreal.”Related

This was the second time in the last five months Chahar has had to leave a game without finishing his four overs because of hamstring problems. In the second ODI against Bangladesh in Mirpur last December, Chahar pulled out after bowling three overs. He then returned to the BCCI’s National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, his base for the majority of 2022 after he suffered a Grade 3 quadricep tear last February.A stiff back, which was diagnosed as a stress fracture, then delayed his comeback, frustrating both Chahar and the Indian team management, leading to Rohit Sharma saying that the team “can’t afford guys coming in here half-fit and representing the country”.Chahar is not the only Indian quick to have been sidelined for long periods because of recurring injuries: Jasprit Bumrah, Navdeep Saini, Kuldip Sen, Mohsin Khan and Yash Dayal have all been out of action for varying stretches of late. Bumrah, in fact, attempted a comeback more than once after his back injury before eventually undergoing surgery recently.Shastri said that what bothered him the most was that most of these players’ workloads were not too big and despite being declared fit by the NCA medical team, they were still picking up injuries.”Make sure you get fit and come once and for all, because it’s damn frustrating”•BCCI

“Come on, you’re not playing that much cricket to be injured again and again,” Shastri said. “I mean, you can’t play four matches on the trot. What are you going to the NCA for? If you are going to come back and then three matches [later] you’re back there. So make sure you get fit and come once and for all because it’s damn frustrating. Not just for the team, the players, the BCCI, the captains of the various [IPL] franchises. It’s annoying, to say the least.”I can understand a serious injury, but every four games when someone touches his hamstring or someone touches his groin, you start thinking what are these guys… what are they training, what’s going on. And some of them don’t play any other cricket in the year. It’s just four overs [in the IPL], man, three hours. The game is over.”A day after the Mumbai Indians match, Super Kings said in a media statement that Chahar would undergo further scans before a call is taken on his participation in the remainder of the IPL.Chahar himself had said recently that it was never easy to come back from a major injury. In February, in a chat with PTI, he had declared himself “fully fit” and ready for the IPL. “I had two big injures. One was a stress fracture and one was a quad grade 3 tear. They are both very big injuries. You are out for months,” he had said. “Anyone who comes back after the injury, it takes time, especially for the fast bowlers.”

Adam Hose fifty plus all-round excellence from Usama Mir give Worcestershire winning formula

Brett D’Oliveira adds three wickets in 15-run victory over Northants

Adam Hose’s powerful hitting and an excellent all-round performance from Usama Mir led Worcestershire Rapids to a 15-run victory over hosts Northamptonshire Steelbacks in their Vitality Blast clash.Hose, the Blast’s third-highest run-scorer last season with Warwickshire before joining Worcestershire in a bid to revive his red-ball career, picked up where he left off in the short format, striking 61 from 40 balls, including two sixes and six fours. There were also valuable contributions from Jack Haynes, Ed Pollock and Mir as Worcestershire reached 196 for 9.Despite the Steelbacks getting their innings off to a positive start, they were stymied by Mir, the Pakistan leg-spinner who claimed 3 for 21 in his four overs. He was well supported by Brett D’Oliveira, with 3 for 28, as Northamptonshire lost five wickets for 26 runs in the space of five overs after reaching 90 for 1 to finish on 181 for 8.Worcestershire opted to bat and opener Michael Bracewell got off the mark with a huge six over mid-wicket off Tom Taylor before he was caught at deep square leg off the next delivery. D’Oliveira smashed David Willey for successive fours but was bowled for 11 attempting to flick Taylor to fine leg.Hose sent Graeme White’s first delivery for six and by the end of the powerplay the Rapids were 57 for 2, having taken 32 runs off the fifth and sixth overs.Haynes reached 27 off 17 balls before he picked out long-on off Rob Keogh and Rapids were 82 for 3 at the halfway point of their innings.Hose survived a chance off James Sales on 43 when he drove to mid-off, where Willey failed to hold on, and reached his fifty off 34 balls. He sped to 61 before he skied a high full toss from White towards midwicket with the bowler covering good ground to take the return catch.Mir’s unbeaten 20 off just seven balls comprised two sixes before Adam Finch and Mitchell Stanley were run out in the final over.Usama Mir celebrates a wicket•Getty Images

Northamptonshire began their response assertively and reached fifty well inside the first five overs, but Mitchell Stanley picked up the wicket of Chris Lynn, caught by Pat Brown at deep backward square for 28 from 14 balls.Mir entered the attack in the eighth over and bowled Ricardo Vasconcelos for 32 with his fourth delivery. He switched to the pavilion end and snared the wicket of Saif Zaib, whose reverse sweep found Kashif Ali at short fine leg.Mir made it three wickets in three overs when he had Keogh caught by Brown at deep midwicket. That was after D’Oliveira had Willey caught by Haynes for 36 off 24 balls. D’Oliveira also claimed the wickets of Lewis McManus and Sales to cap a satisfying night for the Worcestershire captain and his team.

Najmul Hossain Shanto's 27-ball fifty lights path for Bangladesh to down world champions

England stutter at the death before Bangladesh batters showcase newfound aggression

Mohammad Isam09-Mar-2023″New Bangladesh” took down England in the first T20I in Chattogram, gunning down the 157-run chase in impressive fashion. The new-look side that had one player returning after eight years, one after two years and a debutant, beat the world champions by six wickets, with two overs in hand. It is very rare to see such a performance in T20Is from Bangladesh. After Hasan Mahmud led with stingy death overs – England scored only 21 runs in the last four overs – the batters did what they are expected to do in a T20 chase: bat with purpose. But this was missing for so long in the Bangladeshi batting approach. Litton Das and Rony Talukdar, the player returning to the side after eight years, struck early boundaries, before Najmul Hossain Shanto and Towhid Hridoy kept up the pressure with a fast partnership.Shanto made his third fifty in his last four innings, before falling for 51. Captain Shakib Al Hasan and Afif Hossain then scored the remaining runs, an unbroken 46-run stand in 5.4 overs to complete the chase. Shakib remained unbeaten on 34, clattering six fours in his 24-ball stay. Afif made 15 with two fours, one of them a classic cover drive. But it was not all plain-sailing for Bangladesh. England got off to a great start, reaching 80 in the first ten overs.Buttler leads powerful start
England fired off 51 for no loss in the Powerplay. Phil Salt struck five boundaries including a six in his 35-ball 38 but it was Buttler who was more punishing. He brought out all his T20 specials including the splayed-leg hoick over long-on and the slightly more open cover drive. Buttler also got his boundaries with the reverse-sweep and the back-foot punch, underlining his authority and quality as a T20 star. He finished with eight boundaries, half of them sixes, in his 42-ball stay. Both Buttler and Salt were dropped in the sixth over. First, Nasum Ahmed dropped a return chance off Salt on 20, before Shakib dropped a sitter at mid-on with Buttler on 19. Salt though wasn’t too happy with his dismissal when UltraEdge picked up an under-edge in the tenth over. Dawid Malan fell shortly afterward, when he holed out in the deep off Shakib.Hasan triggers collapse
Buttler still was going great guns, adding 47 runs with Ben Duckett for the third wicket. But when Mustafizur Rahman removed the left-handed Duckett for 20 off 13 balls, England still had four overs in hand to put up a big total. Instead, Hasan bowled two mean overs at the death to bring Bangladesh back into the contest.Hasan removed Buttler the ball after Duckett got out, before he dismssed Sam Curran for 6 in his next over, both to catches in the deep. Taskin bowled a strong final over, giving away just nine runs as England finished on 156 for 6. A tally of 21 runs in the last four overs was England’s second-lowest in this phase of a T20I innings.A rare Powerplay boost
It is quite unusual for Bangladesh to outscore the opposition in the powerplay, but that’s exactly what happened in Chattogram. The home side raced to 54 for 2, to beat England’s powerplay by three runs. The visitors didn’t lose a wicket but T20 sides often don’t bother about losing two wickets in the fielding restrictions.Litton and Talukdar combined six boundaries in the first three overs before the latter missed Adil Rashid’s googly in the fourth over. Shanto survived a lbw appeal in his second ball, before hitting Rashid for a boundary. Litton fell in the next over, but debutant Hridoy ensured Bangladesh finished big in the Powerplay with two more fours.Shanto, Hridoy bring their Strikers’ gameShanto and Hridoy added 65 runs in just 6.3 overs, reminiscent of their recent exploits in the BPL, playing for Sylhet Strikers. Shanto was the tournament’s highest run-getter, while Hridoy got his senior call-ups for his BPL performance. They played aggressively during this fourth wicket stand against England, something that Bangladesh has missed in the middle-overs from their middle-order for a very long time.Hridoy slog-swept Rashid for a six, before falling for a 17-ball 24, but the innings aided Shanto at the other end. The left-hander drove the ball gleefully, particularly against Mark Wood, taking him for four consecutive boundaries in the seventh over. Shanto steadied himself in the next six overs, before Wood burst one through him. But Shanto’s 51 off 30 balls, and his stand with Hridoy, left an easier equation for the home side.

    WHAT HAPPENED?

A last-minute goal from Vancouver Whitecaps’ Tristan Blackmon spoiled the celebrations for Pumas at Estadio Olímpico Universitario. The Mexican side had already begun envisioning a semifinal clash with Inter Miami and Lionel Messi, who had just pulled off a dramatic win over LAFC at Chase Stadium.

Pumas, led by head coach Efraín Juárez, took a 2-1 lead in the 88th minute thanks to a goal from Ignacio Pussetto. It seemed like victory was within reach for the, but Blackmon’s late equalizer sent Vancouver through to the next round via the away goals rule- putting them just one step from the final.

After the match, Juárez said he didn’t view the elimination as a failure, emphasizing the fight his team showed.

“It wasn’t enough; we tried from every angle. I don’t think it’s a failure, not this time, because the team tried, fought, and there’s no reproach. I don’t see it that way; it’s part of the process. It’s a short process of four weeks, and the team has shown another face. We’re missing that ‘spark’ because we’re there, but we need that extra,” he commented.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Pumas and Efraín Juárez suffered another setback, this time in the Champions Cup, after being eliminated by Whitecaps due to a late goal. The Mexican club failed to take advantage of the 1-1 draw they earned last week in the Canadian city, drawing 2-2 at home and being knocked out by the away goals rule. Now, Pumas' only focus is to fight for the Clausura 2025, where they currently sit in 10th place. The capital team has not won a Liga MX title since 2011.

  • Getty Images Sport

    WHAT EFRAÍN JUÁREZ SAID

“We have to get back up; the reality is that we didn’t lose this series. It hurts a lot because of the way it happened. You were in a semifinal, and in two minutes, everything went to hell," Juarez said. "I still believe in my team, I still trust them, and understanding that, we’ll prepare for a home game that keeps us alive in the league.”

  • Getty Images Sport

    WHAT NEXT FOR PUMAS?

Pumas must turn the page, as they currently sit in 10th place in the Clausura 2025 standings. At the moment, they are occupying the last spot for the Play-in, so they cannot afford to drop points this weekend when they host FC Juárez on Saturday for Matchday 15.

Everton now closing in on £5m signing of title-winning 26 y/o player

Everton appear to be closing in on the signing of a title-winning Champions League player in the January transfer window, according to a fresh update.

Everton transfer news

Time is running out for the Blues to make new signings, with Danilo Barbosa the latest player to be linked with a move to Goodison Park in the coming days. The Botafogo defensive midfielder is seen as a strong option to bring in, having enjoyed previous stints in European football with Braga, Nice, Valencia, Standard Liege and Benfica.

Everton are also believed to be pushing to sign Chelsea midfielder Kieran Dewsbury-Hall on loan for the remainder of the season, having experienced a tough time of things at Stamford Bridge since arriving from Leicester City last summer.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Trevoh Chalobah

Meanwhile, the Merseysiders have reportedly been trying to hijack West Ham’s move for Ajax attacker Brian Brobbey, but the Hammers appear to be the front-runners to snap up the 22-year-old Dutchman. He only has one goal in 17 Eredivisie appearances this season, but David Moyes may feel he can get the most out of him.

Dan Neil has also emerged as an option to come in at Everton soon, having become a key man for Sunderland down the years, starting 28 times in the Championship in 2024/25 to date, helping the Black Cats push for promotion to the Premier League. He may find the lure of joining a top-flight club midway through the season, though, so it will be interesting to see what develops.

Everton close to signing Champions League player

According to Tuttosport [via Goodison News], Everton are closing in on a £5m move to sign Sparta Prague right-back Angelo Preciado with a transfer one step away.

Should the deal go through, it would be Moyes’ first signing back as Blues manager, as he looks for some late January business to bolster his squad.

Right-back has to be a position where Everton look to strengthen this month, and if not now, then certainly when the end of this season arrives. While Ashley Young and Seamus Coleman have been great professionals down the years, and can still do a job when called upon, a younger replacement needs to come in.

In Preciado, the Blues could have a perfect option to come in and be an upgrade on the pair, having appeared three times in the Champions League this season, not to mention featuring four times for Ecuador at Copa America last summer.

The 26-year-old is also a versatile player who can do an excellent job as a right winger, so Moyes could almost be signing two players in one, giving Everton more attacking thrust if he is used as a wide man.

Preciado is a one-time Czech league champion, sealing glory with Sparta last season – he also won the Belgian Cup during his time with Genk – so he could bring a winning mentality to the Blues’ squad, too.
