West Indies women arrive in Karachi for T20I series
A 13-member West Indies women’s squad led by Merissa Aguilleira with a support staff comprising eight members landed in Karachi on Wednesday for the first visit to Pakistan by a non-Asian women’s team in 15 years. West Indies women are scheduled to play three T20Is in Karachi and the series is being seen as another important step towards the resumption of international cricket in the country. The squad was received by officials of the PCB women’s wing and was accorded special VVIP security protocol, with over 500 policemen escorting the team from the airport to the hotel. Traffic on the roads en route to the team hotel was held up for brief period to create an empty pocket and ensure a smooth drive, as the team travelled on the bullet-proof buses owned by the Pakistan board.”The security system is top class,” West Indies captain Aguilleira said. “There was security on both sides of the roads and these things show that everybody has put things in place and we are really lucky to be spending time here. We are not playing ODIs here but eventually it will happen. I’m pleased that we as a team took the initiative to come over here. I am so thankful that we can contribute to bring back cricket to Pakistan.”I really urge other teams to come back to [play in] Pakistan because the people here love cricket, which is the most important part.”West Indies are without their regular captain Stafanie Taylor who opted out of the T20Is due to security concerns and will return for the subsequent ODIs in Dubai. Aguilleira, who led West Indies until 2015, was appointed captain for the T20Is instead. Among the support staff, the full-time physiotherapist Marita Marshall has not accompanied the side and has been replaced by Dr Oba Gulston. That is the only change to a support staff led by coach Hendy Springer, assistant coach Augustine Logie, team manager Augena Gregg and strength and conditioning coach Shayne Copper. The side is also accompanied by a selector Courtney Browne and a security officer.West Indies women had last toured Pakistan in March 2004 for a seven-match ODI series, making them, at the time, only the second women’s international team to tour Pakistan after Netherlands.Their current visit to Pakistan is the first by a women’s side since Bangladesh women toured the country in October 2015. All three of West Indies’ T20Is will be played at the Southend Club in Karachi from January 31 to February 3 before the sides travel to Dubai to play a series of three ODIs as a part of the ICC Women’s Championship.
The duo powered Chittagong to 214, along with the rest of the order, before the bowlers chipped away to restrict Khulna to 188

Pulisic shut down by aggressive Juve defending
Weah shines in matchup vs the dangerous Leao
Draw keeps Milan in driving seat for second spot

WHAT HAPPENED?
Weah, Pulisic, Weston McKennie and Yunus Musah took to the field against one another for the second time this season in Serie A's de-facto U.S. men's national team derby. The first match ended in a narrow Juve win back in October but there was nothing that could split the two sides here.
The hosts had the better of the chances to win the contest and struck the post twice in the 50th minute. At the other end, Milan struggled, with the hosts defending magnificently out wide to keep the Rossoneri at bay.
Ultimately, neither side broke through, with Serie A's second and third-best teams settling for a 0-0 draw.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
The match will have no impact on the Serie A title race, with Inter having already secured the Scudetto. Milan and Juve are left playing for the runners-up spot, although the latter's hold on third place is becoming more tenuous.
With the draw, Milan maintain a five-point lead over Juve in third, with just four Serie A games left to play. Massimiliano Allegri's side only have a three-point advantage over Bologna, meanwhile, with them facing Udinese on Sunday where they'll have the chance to wipe out the deficit.

USMNT IMPACT
This particular match still feels like a huge one for American soccer fans. It's one that has shown how far the sport has come in many ways, with four USMNT stars playing for two Italian giants on the biggest stage. Just a decade ago, this would have felt impossible.
Indeed, three of the four USMNT stars were named in the starting XIs. For Juve, the lone representative was Weah, who was ultimately replaced by McKennie in the 71st minute. Prior to that, though, Weah was fantastic, locking down Rafael Leao with one of his best performances of the season.
On the Milan side, Pulisic was relatively quiet, amassing just 33 touches, the second-fewest of any outfield player who started the game. He did have some decent moments but was largely shut down by the Juve defense.
Musah was also in the starting XI, and was lined up at right-back by Stefano Pioli, a new position for the former Valencia star. By and large, he justified his coach's faith, tucking inside for most of the match as a pseudo-midfielder.

GOAL'S RATINGS
Christian Pulisic (5/10):
Juventus made it clear from the start: they wouldn't let Pulisic or Leao beat them. The USMNT winger was totally marked out of the match, aside from one or two half-chances he fashioned.
Yunus Musah (6/10):
An interesting decision from Pioli, who used Musah as a right-back. He didn't play the role as you'd traditionally expect, instead tucking in as an extra midfield body. With Sergino Dest out of action, could the USMNT replicate this tactic?
Tim Weah (8/10):
A fantastic outing from a player who isn't known for his defending. Facing arguably Serie A's best winger in Leao, Weah kept him quiet while also pushing Milan's defense back. A huge performance from the USMNT star.
Weston McKennie (6/10):
Had one big chance late on with a header as he looked to change the game in his 20 minutes on the field.
GOAL runs through all of the winners and losers on a chastening night for Mikel Arteta and his young team at the Allianz Arena
Not Bayern Munich, not again, and not like this! Arsenal's Champions League meeting with the Bavarians was meant to be different this time. This felt like the perfect opportunity for revenge over a team that had knocked them out of Europe's top-tier tournament on four previous occasions.
After all, Bayern were struggling horribly in the Bundesliga, being embarrassed on a seemingly weekly basis. Better still, their hopes of winning any other competition were already over, meaning this was a chance to pile even more misery on former Tottenham star Harry Kane, who had moved to Bavaria summer in the hope of finally getting his hands on some silverware.
But after stumbling in the first leg of this quarter-final tie at the Emirates, Arsenal's young and relatively inexperienced team froze at the Allianz Arena, deservedly beaten 1-0 on the night, to go out 3-2 on aggregate, after a painfully timid display.
GOAL runs through all of the winners and losers from a chastening defeat for Mikel Arteta's men…

LOSER: Arsenal's young forwards
The most disturbing aspect of this second leg from Arsenal's perspective will be their almost complete lack of an attacking threat. The Gunners enjoyed plenty of possession, but they did next-to-nothing with it. Indeed, they only had one decent opening, when Martin Odegaard pulled the ball back for Gabriel Martinelli, who shot straight at Manuel Neuer.
It was an effort entirely in keeping with Martinelli's performance all evening. He got no change out of Joshua Kimmich and then criminally failed to track his marker for the goal that decided the tie in Bayern's favour.
Worryingly for Arteta, though, Martinelli's fellow forwards fared little better. Rumours of Kai Havertz's revival have been proven grossly exaggerated, while Bukayo Saka did absolutely nothing to silence those that believe he still has some way to go before he can be considered world-class.

WINNER: Harry Kane
He may not have scored, but Kane won't care! Make no mistake about it: this will rank as one of the sweetest victories of the England captain's career. Arsenal fans were very much looking forward to ending the former Spurs striker's hopes of winning a first trophy – so Kane will have enjoyed the fact that he more than played his part in Bayern progressing to the last four.
There's still plenty of work to do, of course. Even just making the final is going to be tough, but there's no need to look that far forward right now. On Wednesday, Kane could enjoy having got one over on his old rivals – and take a serious amount of encouragement out of the fact that after carrying Bayern for most of the season, many of his team-mates have stepped up to his level over the course of these two games.
Plenty of fans – not just those of an Arsenal persuasion – have been ridiculing Kane over the past few months, but he might just have the last laugh.
G
LOSER: Mikel Arteta
Much of the narrative around this tie focused on the Champions League being Tuchel's last chance to win a trophy before he departs this summer. And the German remains very much at risk of becoming the first Bayern boss to fail to lift at least one piece of silverware in a season since 2012.
However, it's also worth pointing out that while Arteta certainly won't be leaving his post anytime soon, the Spaniard and his expensively-assembled squad could end this season empty-handed, given they've also slipped to second in the Premier League.
He still has time to turn things around, of course, but there's no papering over the fact that Arteta failed to coax anything like the same level of performance out of his side as Tuchel, who had long since lost the support of several key players at Bayern.
The first leg was worrying, but the paucity of the display at the Allianz Arena was embarrassing for a side being touted as potential winners. Arsenal were outclassed on the night, and Arteta was out-thought.
Getty Images
LOSER: Arsenal's title hopes
There are obviously two ways of looking at this. Maybe avoiding an inevitably draining Champions League semi-final will help Arsenal's Premier League title challenge. The extra games could have killed them.
However, this defeat – and perhaps more importantly, the nature of it – will hit Arsenal hard. They didn't go down fighting after all, they bowed out with a whimper – and that's going to sting.
So, while losing might end up helping them physically, as it means fewer matches, it does absolutely nothing for their confidence and only reinforces the impression that Arsenal, just like last season, have lost momentum at precisely the wrong time.

Chelsea have placed a €54 million (£46m/$62m) valuation on Joao Felix, exactly what they paid Atletico Madrid last year as talks intensify with Benfica over a potential return for the 25-year-old. According to , the Eagles have offered €27m (£23m/$31m) for 50 per cent of Felix’s rights, which would be enough to see Chelsea comply with profit and sustainability rules (PSR), but the London club are demanding an extra €13m (£11m/$15m) to guarantee a further percentage in the future. That would take the total fee to €40m (£35m/$47m) which is too high for Benfica.

With three wins in three World Cup games, they’re basically showing off right now. But the toughest test is yet to come
Andrew Fidel Fernando in Taunton08-Jun-2019There is no team flexing quite as hard as New Zealand at this World Cup right now. Three matches in, six points in the bank, they are parked in front of the gym mirror in a tight tank top, making their pecs dance to the hard house music playing in their airpods. They might be alone in the establishment for now, because this, after all, is New Zealand. They are a team the cricket world is almost hard-coded not to take much notice of until the much later stages of a global event. But make no mistake. Them traps are popping. The forearms are rippling. Those shoulder muscles that have other muscles growing on them….yeah, they have those. They have, of course, been done a favour by the scheduling, because their games so far have been against three of the four lowest-ranked teams in the competition, which is almost the ideal first week. The deadlifts and bench presses await, but for now, New Zealand are breezing nicely through the easy settings on the exercise bike.Rahmat Shah walks off after getting out•Getty ImagesThe pitches, additionally, have also been the stuff of their dreams. The green-tinged track at Taunton was basically a Hamilton clone. If there were a few more drunks yelling curse-laden advice/abuse from the stands, this would basically be home.Watch on Hotstar (India only) – Highlights of James Neesham’s five-forNevertheless, it is an impressive start, not least because so many have shone already. They were his own best returns not just in internationals, but in his entire professional career. So quickly did Afghanistan’s top order unravel, nosediving from 66 for 0 in the 11th over, to 70 for 4 in the 15th as Neesham swung the match decisively in New Zealand’s favour in the space of eight deliveries. The exalted company Neesham keeps•ESPNcricinfo Ltd”The wicket suited him a little bit,” captain Kane Williamson said. “It suited guys that come in and hit the deck a little bit. He got the ball a little earlier than he has because the pitch had that extra bounce in it. Jimmy, when he’s bowling well, can get that pace out of a surface. The bowlers complemented each other nicely.”All this, New Zealand have done so far, while also gently drawing attention to one of their other cricket flexes – that they are the cuddliest, humblest, nice guyest team on the planet. When Rashid Khan took a ball to the helmet grille during Afghanistan’s innings, Williamson was forward in a flash – not to celebrate the wicket (the ball had been deflected into the stumps), but to check on a visibly shaken Rashid. Earlier, Colin Munro was seen tying batsman Hashmatullah Shahidi’s shoelace. It’s set to be a vitally important summer for Tottenham Hotspur this year.
After a campaign that has been defined by an incredible number of injuries and the emergence of several incredible youngsters, Daniel Levy and Co have to make some big investments in the upcoming transfer window to ensure Ange Postecoglou, or whoever is in the hot seat, can take the club forward next season.
However, while sorting out the right incomings is going to be of paramount importance, it will be just as crucial to keep a hold of the team’s best players.
Ange Postecoglou and Daniel Levy.
Unfortunately, this could be a problem for the North Londoners, as recent reports have touted one of their stars with a move to Real Madrid, a move reminiscent of Gareth Bale’s in 2013.
Tottenham Transfer news
According to a recent report from Spain, Cristian Romero could be on his way to Real Madrid this summer.
Transfer Focus
Mega money deals, controversial moves and big-name flops. This is the home of transfer news and opinion across Football FanCast.
The report has revealed that the Argentinian international has not hidden his interest in playing for the Spanish giants and that should they come in for him at the end of the season, he’d ‘be willing to take the step.’
The one piece of good news to come from the report is the claim that while Los Blancos like the player, he is only seen as one of a few options at the moment, although the fact his contract expires in two years makes a move for him more realistic than some of their other targets.
While Romero has been out of action for much of this season, his importance to Spurs cannot be underestimated, so losing him to Real would be a disaster, similar to the loss of Bale over a decade ago.
Why Romero's exit would be a Bale repeat
So, there are a couple of reasons why losing Romero this summer would be very reminiscent of Bale’s departure in 2013, with the most straightforward being that both players would have gone to Real Madrid.
The second similarity would be their respective importance to the North Londoners.
For example, in his final campaign for the Lilywhites, the Cardiff-born phenomenon was a force of nature, scoring 26 goals and providing ten assists in just 44 appearances, which came out to an average of a goal involvement every 1.22 games.
Now, it’s probably fair to say that the former Atalanta star does not have quite the same impact on the team as the Welsh icon did, but that doesn’t mean he’s not incredibly important, and if Lionel Messi thinks he’s “the best defender in the world,” he’s got to be up there with some of the best in the league.
For example, he’s one of the club’s co-vice captains, and across his 115 appearances for the team, he’s scored seven goals, provided one assist and averaged 1.69 points per game, which is an average significantly reduced by the limited appearances he’s made across this dismal campaign.

In fact, it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that the team have struggled so dramatically in defence during the season he and Micky van de Ven have been out of action for significant amounts of time.
Finally, while Levy and Co would likely receive a sizable fee for the World Cup-winning “monster,” as dubbed by journalist Charlie Eccleshare, it seems unlikely that they’d be able to sign a defender as good as him and could end up wasting the money on several players as they did in 2013.
Ultimately, Romero is obviously not on the same level as Bale, but were he to leave Spurs for Real Madrid this summer, his move would certainly mirror the Welshman’s.
Ange has found a "generational" talent at Spurs who's the new Mousa Dembele
Spurs may well have found their new Mousa Dembele this season.
Erik ten Hag’s tenure at Manchester United came to an end in October last year. Things ultimately did not work out for the Dutchman, despite winning two trophies in his two full seasons at the club. He guided United to their lowest-ever Premier League finish, eighth, last term, although that seems like it will be beaten this time around
The former Ajax boss was certainly backed in the transfer market, too. He spent a reported £616m on new signings over the course of his time at the club, reshaping the squad. Sadly, not many of those signings have ended up working out.
However, one player Ten Hag signed – under the INEOS regime – who seems to be finding his best form in a United shirt is Joshua Zirkzee.
Zirkzee’s United career so far
It has been a mixed debut season in Red for Netherlands international Zirkzee. He made the move to Old Trafford from Bologna in the summer for £36.5m, and initially struggled to find his best form, despite showing glimpses of what he can do.
Zirkzee, Dalot, De Ligt
So far, the former Bayern Munich star has scored six times and registered two assists in 41 games in that famous Red shirt, and has been particularly excellent of late, playing as one of the two number 10s in Ruben Amorim’s system.
Goals were a bit hard to come by for the attacker at the start of his United career. However, he has been finding the back of the net more consistently of late, and scored for United away to Real Sociedad in the Europa League.
He got the Red Devils’ only goal of the game to get a crucial 1-1 draw in the Round of 16 first leg.
As United social media presence Adam McKola said on Stretford Paddock, the United number 11 is “an intelligent footballer”, and possesses excellent close control. His ability on the ball is second to none.
So, Zirkzee may turn out to be one of the success stories of Ten Hag’s and INEOS’ transfer business. However, the new regime have made a handful of poor decisions in the market too, including selling one of United’s most important players last season, who is now outscoring Zirkzee this term.
The former United player outscoring Zirkzee
One of the rare things in modern-day football is to become a one-club player. Well, before his summer move to Napoli, Scott McTominay was on his way to doing just that at Old Trafford. He cost the Naples club £21m up front, with a further £4.2m in add-ons.
Where Are They Now
McTominay departed his boyhood club after making an impressive 255 appearances, scoring 29 goals and grabbing eight assists. Once described as a “hero” by Statman Dave last season, he scored some vital goals throughout his time at Old Trafford.
Last season in the Premier League, the Scotland international scored seven times. That included two goals against Brentford and Chelsea in match-winning causes at home, to earn United some big wins.
This season, the former United number 39 is thriving under Antonio Conte at Napoli. With Gli Azzurri pushing for the Scudetto, he has seven goals and four assists in all competitions, with ten of those 11 goal involvements coming in Serie A.
McTominay has made a brilliant start to life in Italy, and is even outscoring Zirkzee, who is starting to find his best form in Red for United.
Some of his stats on FBref show just how well he has played this term. For example, the Napoli midfielder averages 0.26 goals per game, ranking him in the top 95% of midfielders in Italy’s top flight.

Looking back on it, perhaps United regret selling McTominay. As well as Zirkzee is playing now, having their former academy star’s goal threat to add to the dynamic up front could have been deadly.
Even though they sold him for just £25m including add-ons, it seems United could have got an even better deal, or just kept him at the club instead.
