This level of interest could make signing David complicated, but for the supposed fee and based on his recent form, this is a transfer Arsenal cannot miss out on – especially as he could be incredible alongside Odegaard.

Now, there are probably countless reasons why David would be a fantastic signing and a brilliant teammate for Odegaard, but there is one incredibly straightforward one: his output.

Across 50 matches in all competitions, the winger scored 20 goals while contributing nine assists, certainly proving his worth to the Championship side as they retained their status in the second tier.

Among his teammates in the Championship, he ranked first for goals and assists (27), big chances created (10), key passes per game (1.4) and for successful dribbles per game (1.2) last term, showing how impressive he is going forward.

These statistics show that he could be a dream for Matheus Cunha next term, creating plenty of chances for the Brazilian to slot away in the top flight.

His pace and trickery on the right wing could see the winger become yet another goal threat in the Wolves squad, especially as he could link up well with Cunha, who will be leading the attacking charge.

The youngster was praised by talent scout Jacek Kulig back in 2020 as he was beginning to emerge as a promising talent, dubbing him a “flamboyant winger” while claiming that he was similar in style to Riyad Mahrez.

Cunha scored 14 goals in all competitions last term, but this tally may have been higher had he received better service from the wings.

Whittaker isn’t just a goal threat, but a player who can cause chaos among opposition defenders, allowing him the space to deliver crosses into the box or make meandering runs.

Adding someone of this talent to his squad could only benefit O’Neil, and he shouldn’t be deterred by Plymouth’s valuation of £15m.

CHANCES E VAR EM AÇÃO EM INÍCIO PROMISSOR

O clássico no Nilton Santos começou movimentado. O Flamengo, mantendo uma linha de três zagueiros, com Filipe Luís pela esquerda, teve a primeira chance no primeiro minuto, após tabelinha entre Arrascaeta e Everton Ribeiro. Gabigol recebeu na área e finalizou forte, e Marcos Felipe fez boa defesa. A resposta do Fluminense foi imediata, com Luiz Henrique superando Rodinei e Gustavo Henrique, e invadindo a área, mas a chute não saiu como desejado.

O início do lado esquerdo do Flamengo foi promissor e, em mais uma boa chegada de Andreas, o árbitro viu toque de mão de Nino e marcou pênalti. O empurra-empurra generalizado acabou com cartões para Diego e Felipe Melo. Depois, o juiz Alexandre Vargas foi ao VAR e anulou a marcação, mas os ânimos já haviam sido acirrados. Depois da pausa para hidratação, o nível do jogo caiu.

NÍVEL CAI COM FALTAS E CONFUSÃO EM EXCESSO

Mais vibrante, o Fluminense conseguiu encaixar a marcação e passou a oferecer mais perigo do que o adversário. Quando a bola rolou, o São Paulo tratou de transformar essa pressão em gol. Logo aos três minutos, Maioli abriu o marcador e fez o estádio Anacleto Campanella explodir.

O São Paulo mandava no jogo. Com isso, quem ‘mandava’ também nas arquibancadas era a torcida do Tricolor, que começou a provocar o Vasco, com gritos de ‘Ão ão ão, segunda divisão’ e ‘Arerê, o Vasco vai jogar a Série B’.

O São Paulo sentia o peso das arquibancadas e fez o terceiro com Talles Wander. O gol fez com que os torcedores são-paulinos ensaiassem o grito de ‘eliminado’ nas arquibancadas do Anacleto.

No entanto, a apreensão tomou conta dos torcedores em dois minutos. O Vasco marcou duas vezes, uma aos 36 e uma aos 38, o que fez crescer os rostos preocupados nos torcedores.
